Mine to borrow

National Poetry Writing Month

Prompt VII: Poem about laughter that is borrowed

Laughter, smile, chuckle and beam,
All of them epitomize happiness.
Instant grins aren’t as merry as they seem,
For they are usually loaded with emptiness.

Borrowed felicity is a treat,
It’s iced with a constant reason
The events are naturally different,
But it endures every season.
I too treasure few such stories,
They lift my spirits at any given time.
The value of every “proud of you”,
Is extremely intricate to define.

Contentment of those I look up to,
Is immensely satisfying to know.
Each time I stand up to their expectations,
Their glee becomes mine to borrow.
